Margaret Swinford, RN, MSN, a graduate of the class of 1961 is recognized in nursing education as an educator and leader. Her career in nursing began as a staff nurse at Bethesda Hospital. However, she was quickly recognized as a teacher and a leader and was asked to become a clinical instructor in the Bethesda School of Nursing the following year.

She completed her BSN degree from Edgecliff College in Cincinnati and MSN degree from the University of Kentucky. She worked at the School of Nursing as an instructor and was promoted to assistant to the Director of Nursing. In 1969, she transferred to a part-time position as staff nurse in the hospital. Then, in 1975, Ms. Swinford returned to the School of Nursing where she remained throughout the transition to Cincinnati State Technical and Community College until her retirement in 2002. Her title at Cincinnati State was Cooperative Education Coordinator for Nursing. She was awarded Professor Emeritus from the college.

Ms. Swinford has been very active in the alumni association since graduating from the nursing program. She has been a long term president working with the alumni and board members. Currently, she is coordinator of that Outreach Program for new graduates at Cincinnati State.  Ms. Swinford continues to work on a part time basis as an adjunct instructor while enjoying traveling.
